The Law of Least Effort and Spiritual Practice
“Help us not interfere, and so delay the happy endings You have promised us for every problem that we can perceive; for every trial we think we still must meet.”
- A Course in Miracles Lesson 292

Recently, I have been amid a rise in the M-Spike that flags the presence of abnormal cells in my bone marrow again, and at the same time I have been asked for space from my beloved to find clarity. I know what stress and unforgiveness does to my body temple so I went right to work.
Since all forgiveness is self-forgiveness, I forgive myself for the mistakes I have made. I asked forgiveness from the one I hurt. I turned it all over to the Holy Spirit for correction. Just when I thought I could not ugly cry, sob, or weep any more, the tears kept coming. I was in anguish over the thought that something I said or did could cause another so much pain, I asked spirit for comfort and clarity. I immediately remembered Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, particularly the Law of Least Effort which means acceptance of what is. My mantra became “Today I will accept people, situations, and circumstances as they occur.” I willingly release the struggle and bring my power and awareness back to the present moment.
I take Responsibility. “It means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation including yourself.” From this space, I can respond creatively, guided by love. I express gratitude for it all. Reverend Michael said it is through challenging experiences we uncover false beliefs that need to be revealed and healed, thereby preparing us for the next level of our experience. Everything is truly for us regardless of appearances.
The final step in the Law of Least effort is to rest in defenselessness. I don’t have to convince anyone of anything. “When you remain open to all points of view,-not rigidly attached to only one - your dreams and desires flow with nature’s desire.” As the Borg says in Star Trek, “Resistance is futile.” I choose to assimilate Self-compassion, Self-love, Self-Respect, and kindness towards myself and others.
Finally, I realized all my life I have been pouring myself into others without a thought of being open and receptive to love myself. As Dr. Maya Angelou said, “When you know better, you do better.” That is a part of my work too. I love myself through my spiritual practice of study, prayer, meditation, life visioning, sacred service, and being in community. I sit in silent communion with the love of God. I tell myself I love myself. I consciously flow love to every cell and organ in my body temple. I bless everything I eat and drink. I move my body temple daily. I flow my love to others from my consciousness to theirs and see only love and peace between us. Everything is All Right Already!
Affirmation
I love myself. I am open and receptive to more love than I could ever imagine. I release need the to be right. I give and receive from the overflow. I express gratitude for everything that led me to this moment.
